XBox 360 | ESPGALUDA II Black Label – CAVE

XBox 360 | ESPGALUDA II Black Label – CAVE

Updated 2011-08-04 with No-miss Omake! YouTube video (scroll down) My love for CAVE and all of their excellent shooting games was originally brought on by Ketsui, but that wasn't an affordable title at the time, so instead I started to play ESPGALUDA. And more importantly, I started to play it for score and not only for survival. The latter way was how I've always played shmups, as this most of the time was how you got a high score in the shmup titles from the 80's that I grew up playing. Take Twin Cobra for instance, where your sole purpose in the game is to survive each stage without dying, as you get a stage clear bonus consisting of all the bonus icons you pick up. Of course survival is important in CAVE games as well, but unless you play daringly during each stage and keep away from using bombs your score will take a rather big hit.   I actually played ESPGALUDA...

My Guwange HORI stick

My Guwange HORI stick

TURNING TEKKEN 6 INTO GUWANGE INTRODUCTION I found a very cheap HORI Tekken 6 | Game + Artwork book + Arcade stick bundle, but never clicked with the stick or the artwork, so I started working on a fitting artwork, looking at hardware modding possibilities etc. The first thing I did was trying to make the sloppy HORI joystick feel more like the quality parts I'm used to. The easiest way I found someone had come up with was switching out most of the sucky parts for quality parts with just some light hardware modding. By switching out HORI guide to a SANWA JLF octagonal gate (you drill 4 holes in the latter) I felt that the stick handled much better. I then switched out the default microswitches for the stick with the kind used in Seimitsu LS-32, and also used a SANWA JLF spring that I pulled out to twice the original height....

Ultracade Universal Video Converter

Ultracade Universal Video Converter

What it does The Ultracade Universal Video Converter, or UVC for short, can convert a high res video signal into an arcade monitor compatible RGBS signal. In 15kHz or in 24kHz. There are other ways of hooking up a high res source to an arcade cabinet like this, but no other can output to 24kHz (AFAIK).  From the manual: " This is a very simple board that has only one function, to allow the display of PC based games on older arcade style monitors. The board needs to be an external device that requires no modification to the software running on the PC. It will handle one of three input resolutions (1024x768, 800x600 or 640x480) with a vertical refresh rate of 60Hz and output to one of two user selectable output modes (640x240@15.72KHz)...

XBox 360 Cabinet Themes

XBox 360 Cabinet Themes

"Cabifying" your 360 dashboard What's that you say? I noticed that you could browse pictures in the dashboard of the XBox 360 and decided to see if this could be utilized to create a "theme" of sorts. I then made an EGRETĀ II theme that worked really well in my cabinet. As I shared this on some arcade forums I frequent, the ball got rolling and now I've made a few more of these. Some have multiple versions with colour variations. How do I install them then? You download these images to a USB device that's compatible with your XBox 360, or if you have a Home network, you put them in a folder that you can browse to from your 360's Picture Library. When you have the image selected, press the Y button to use it as a background. Once you've done this once, a new theme will be created that you can select from your User account. I been making lots of posts over at the shmups forums about the Ultracade Universal Video Converter (discontinued) that I use to display my XBox 360 games in my EGRET II. The thread has lots of useful info on this, so I went ahead and copied all of the useful data over to a new page that I've made here should the info disappear sometime. The original thread got deleted by mistake once, and I don't want to go through with another re-write. Click the banner below to read. ...

Made a little guide on how to upgrade the speakers in your EGRET II (should work well for any type of JAMMA sitdown really) to a 2.1 stereo set, allowing easy console, PC or a stereo source, line output arcade system. The guide describes what's needed, and how to do the switch in three ways. I've also completed a small project of turning a HORI Tekken 6 wireless stick (for the 360) into a Guwange stick. ...

Been a while since the last update. I've today sold my Rampage World Tour PCB because it's kind of a nuicance getting it to run (demands -5V, but might even be broken, buyer was aware though). Not much else is new, I've been putting all of my time into playing Ketsui on the 360 and finally got the 1ALL on one credit. I can't really afford the PCB's I would wanna buy, so I keep buying nice 360 ports instead, Ketsui and DeathSmiles 2X are the latest ones, but I haven't played DS2X at all. ...

My beloved Xiong Ba cabinet and my Red Box multi-PCB are both sold and has left the building. I'm really happy I got the cabinet sold right now, as I was on the verge of some major reconstruction on it. Typically, I usually start stuff I really regret later on, but this time a buyer appeared and put a stop to that nonsense. Now that I have no high res available, I've set my EGRET II to 24kHz to get as close to high res as possible now that I have an awesome Ultracade Video Converter. This cool little thing converts VGA to 15 kHz or 24kHz without breaking a sweat. And it's very tiny, so it's replaced the Emotia in the EGRET II, mostly because it can handle 24khz. Unfortunately, the Nanao monitor can't switch resolutions "on the fly" like the Wei-Ya in the Xiong Ba cabinet did, so it's not as easy to switch back and forth. Hopefully, I'll be...

I've sold my Rastan PCB. Never gets played anyway, and I will rather have some nice things for my cabinets right now. Will get 2.1 speakers for my EGRET II, and a Extron Super Emotia video converter I got off eBay needs a power stepdown converter so I can play vertical high res (Japanese XBox 360) shmups in my low res cabs (preferrably EGRET II). I also got rid of a Rygar bootleg, and Tetris Plus 2 cart for Jaleco Mega System 32. Yes, I bought a Japanese XBox 360 and am currently enjoying DeathSmiles Mega Black Label in glorious high res in the Xiong-Ba cabinet. What a beautiful/fun game it is. Looking forward to Mushihime Futari, Ketsui, ESPGALUDA II and DeathSmiles 2 in the future. Also, I'm considering getting Raiden IV for it, even though I'm not a huge fan of the series. I also bought a very nice reproduction overlay for my EGRET II's 1P panel from SEGAShed: ...
