More CAVE games emulated in MAME

More CAVE games emulated in MAME

As of right now, the following CAVE SH3 titles have preliminary (still no sound and hardware slowdown not emulated properly) drivers in MAME: DeathSmiles ESPGALUDA II Ibara Ibara Kuro (Black Label) Muchi Muchi Pork (apparently, I haven't seen the rom files yet) Mushihimesama Mushihimesama Futari 1.0 Mushihimesama Futari 1.54 Mushihimetama Also added (I haven't checked this out personally) is the Blue version of Guwange!!! I also believe that Pink Sweets has been dumped, but as I write this, I don't know if it's emulated yet. Pretty cool stuff. Updated with a few title screens (don't mind the fake scanlines, I added them):   ...

XBox 360 | ESPGALUDA II Black Label – CAVE

XBox 360 | ESPGALUDA II Black Label – CAVE

Updated 2011-08-04 with No-miss Omake! YouTube video (scroll down) My love for CAVE and all of their excellent shooting games was originally brought on by Ketsui, but that wasn't an affordable title at the time, so instead I started to play ESPGALUDA. And more importantly, I started to play it for score and not only for survival. The latter way was how I've always played shmups, as this most of the time was how you got a high score in the shmup titles from the 80's that I grew up playing. Take Twin Cobra for instance, where your sole purpose in the game is to survive each stage without dying, as you get a stage clear bonus consisting of all the bonus icons you pick up. Of course survival is important in CAVE games as well, but unless you play daringly during each stage and keep away from using bombs your score will take a rather big hit.   I actually played ESPGALUDA...

CAVE | Do-Donpachi Dai-Ou-Jou Black Label – Reverse Engineered

CAVE | Do-Donpachi Dai-Ou-Jou Black Label – Reverse Engineered

Today over at the shmups forums a new post caught my eye. Check out the added content in the Player 2 bomb stock below: A forum regular "austere" has reverse-engineered the game from top to bottom, and made a patch available for those who wants to try it out: This is a modified version of DOJBL I call DOJBL+, which should be able to run on DOJBL boards and a modified version of MAME I've included below (with changes to source noted). If you hold A while pushing start to select a ship, it will run in "plus mode" which will display your hyper rank ("HR"), standard rank ("SR) and current frame number ("FN") when the game begins. I have no plans for additional modifications for now, except possibly replacing the frame number with bullet speed. Anyway you can grab the patch (obviously the romset is not included) and the modified version of MAME 141u1...

My Guwange HORI stick

My Guwange HORI stick

TURNING TEKKEN 6 INTO GUWANGE INTRODUCTION I found a very cheap HORI Tekken 6 | Game + Artwork book + Arcade stick bundle, but never clicked with the stick or the artwork, so I started working on a fitting artwork, looking at hardware modding possibilities etc. The first thing I did was trying to make the sloppy HORI joystick feel more like the quality parts I'm used to. The easiest way I found someone had come up with was switching out most of the sucky parts for quality parts with just some light hardware modding. By switching out HORI guide to a SANWA JLF octagonal gate (you drill 4 holes in the latter) I felt that the stick handled much better. I then switched out the default microswitches for the stick with the kind used in Seimitsu LS-32, and also used a SANWA JLF spring that I pulled out to twice the original height....

So, last week my harddrive gave up. Naturally this has taken it's toll on the site updates, even though I really haven't had anything to put here. In case you've missed it, there are some awesome new additions to MAME since last week. Ketsui, Do-Donpachi Dai-Ou-Jou (including Black Label) and ESPGALUDA. Initally the last one wasn't playable, but just wait for MAME 0.140u3 or so for a working driver and game rom to appear on the Internet. Here's a clip of me playing Ketsui in MAME: The emulation is very good already, especially considering how long some people have been waiting. ...

Made a little guide on how to upgrade the speakers in your EGRET II (should work well for any type of JAMMA sitdown really) to a 2.1 stereo set, allowing easy console, PC or a stereo source, line output arcade system. The guide describes what's needed, and how to do the switch in three ways. I've also completed a small project of turning a HORI Tekken 6 wireless stick (for the 360) into a Guwange stick. ...
